This patient-friendly article is about chemotherapy drug, Tioguanine Lanvis, 6-TG, 6-tioguanine, Tabloid which is a chemotherapy drug used for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) or acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) and occasionally chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML). It is an anti-metabolite, which stops cells making and repairing DNA in order to grow. Tioguanine is administered in tablet form.
Side effects can include: fatigue that can continue after treatment for some months, increased risk of infection, anaemia, bruising and bleeding. Occasionally there is diarrhoea, loss of appetite, nausea and high levels of uric acid.
