This patient-friendly article is about chemotherapy drug, Estramustine (Emcyt, Estracyte) which is combination of a chemotherapy agent, nornitrogen mustard, and an oestrogen, so it has the advantages and disadvantages of both. Taken in tablet form, it is not known exactly how it works. It does not directly damage DNA like other alkylating agents. It seems to act on structures in cells called microtubules in a similar way as Taxotere.
Side effects can include: nausea, plus bone marrow suppression, drop in white and red blood cell count, increased risk of blood clots (thrombosis). Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, kidney or other health problems.
