This patient-friendly article is about chemotherapy drug, Streptozocin (Zanosar) which is a chemotherapy drug used to treat pancreatic cancer. It is not licensed in the UK but is used in research trials. It belongs to a group of chemotherapy drugs called nitrosoureas. They work by sticking to one of the cancer cells DNA strands so the cell cant divide. Streptozocin is administered intravenously.
Side effects can include: deep fatigue that can carry on after treatment ends, nausea and vomiting, temporary kidney and liver changes, increased risk of infection, bruising and bleeding, blood sugar changes, mouth ulcers and diarrhoea.
