Ibandronic acid Bondronat

This patient-friendly article is about chemotherapy drug, Ibandronic acid Bondronat which is most commonly used to treat secondary breast cancer that has spread to the bones. It is a bisphonphonate that is also used to treat hypercalcaemia caused by secondary bone cancer. It is taken intravenously or in tablet form.

Side effects can include: fatigue, flu-like symptoms, lowered calcium levels (hypocalcaemia), mild nausea and vomiting, bone pain, constipation or diarrhoea, stomach pain, changes in blood pressure levels. There is a rare possibility of kidney damage or osteonecrosis of the jaw (which affects teeth and gums).
