EMFs a serious risk to Health

2015 Research

A few years ago, the World Health Organisation declared EMFs to be ‘Probably carcinogenic’ citing a number of studies like the 2008 study which found a five-fold increase in the risk of glioma in those starting mobile phone use under 20 years of age. A paper from the EU urged all member Governments to switch their WiFi in schools to fixed line, and to prepare leaflets for teachers, parents and school children on the dangers of EMFs.

The French promptly said they were going to ’go it alone’ and ban WiFi from all state schools. This has been modified slightly: In February 2015 the French government banned Wi-Fi in nursery schools and restricted use in primary schools.

The German government has recommended that the use of Wi-Fi in the workplace or home should be avoided where possible.

Los Angeles has reduced student exposure to Wi-Fi radiation to 10,000 times below recommended US government norms.

As we have told you before (see here) a child absorbs up to 60 per cent more radiation than an adult due largely to their thinner skulls and the high water content of a young body. This couple with the fact that their brain and nervous system is still forming makes recommendations that no child should carry a mobile phone on their bodies while it is switched on, only sensible. Equally, no child should put a mobile phone to their ears, but should use the phone on speaker.

At CANCERactive, we have quoted Associate Professor Olle Johansson, a neuroscientist at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, before.  “We are currently living in an environment estimated to contain more than 10 billion times more RF radiation than it did in the Sixties. If this environment is safe we’re talking about in the order of 15,000 to 25,000 (scientific) papers – in peer-reviewed scientific journals – all being wrong. That has never happened before.”

In Western countries brain tumours have overtaken leukaemia as the most common cause of cancer in children.

At CANCERactive we urge the Precautionary Principle. Where there is research expressing a concern, you have the right to know, and to take appropriate action as you see fit. In the absence of Government action, you need to make your own ‘smart choices’.
