Colon cancer risk reduced by probiotics

SYNCAN study shows taking probiotics can reduce colorectal cancer and may even help defeat it

(Chris Woollams. CANCERactive). Taking Probiotics can reduce your risk of colorectal cancer, and maybe even help defeat it. Early results from a major new research study (the SYNCAN Project – funded by the EU) into the effects of gut bacteria on colorectal cancer risk shows that people on a mix of Probiotics and Prebiotics had less DNA damage, lowered rates of colorectal cancer and lower rates of cancer cell proliferation.

The study will not be concluded for another five years.

In the new 2014 book (The Secret Source of Your Good Health) –  a mass of research from both America and Europe shows that a loss of diversity and of volume in the bacteria in the gut leads to diseases from autism to diabetes, and cancer to arthritis. Indeed your bacterial microbiome becomes ill first, then you become ill. And you cannot become fully well until it becomes well - more numerous and more diverse.

Colorectal cancer is a disease where a loss in the microbiome’s diversity particularly causes problems.

The addition of probiotics to the diet has been shown in other studies to perform a number of beneficial functions from reducing the length of time people suffer colds and flu, to reducing the risk of IBS and even illnesses developed in hospitals, like killer Clostridium difficile.
