PERU TREK

Bon Voyage to our team of trekkers who set off to Peru on Sunday 25th March!  What a fantastic job these supporters have done both in training for the gruelling trek and also the probably even more gruelling fundraising they have done!  One such participant is Denise Palmer who, amongst other fundraising activities, has managed to get her local rural village of Dunscore and the surrounding community involved and so far they have helped raise over 1700 for CANCERactive.

DARTS FOR INCA TRAIL

Elizete Alves and Elaine Willis organised a 24-hour darts challenge at their local pub raising around 3000!     They have enjoyed their fundraising activities so much they are continuing when they return from Peru with a stall at Bracknell market on 30th June, 7th July, 22nd September, 24th November and 8th December this year.  Well done and thank you.

24th February Double Whammy!

Two of our Regional Executive’s were very ’active’ for us on Saturday 24th February.

Firstly, there was an Holistic Healing Fayre at the Sevenoaks Community Centre.

Twenty one therapists from around the area and from local clinics volunteered their time free for a day, to fill two large halls and give an effective sample of their treatment to anyone who was interested.

This was the first time such an event has been staged in Sevenoaks for CANCERactive.  Staff from Especially Health and volunteer lecturers also gave very interesting talks and demonstrations throughout the day.

The event raised over 600 and was the brainchild of Jay Jacobs, the newest of our regional executives for CANCERactive and who has a background in complementary therapy and psychology.

I attended a talk given by Chris Woollams, the founder of the charity, and was very impressed with the information that this charity has to offer to both someone who has received a diagnosis of cancer and their close family and friends. I have personally experienced cancer in my family and so volunteered to be the regional executive for this area.

Not put off by all the hard work, Jay and her team have arranged Holistic Healing Fayres for us on 28th May and 28th September this year.

And secondly, on the same day, Debbie Southerton held an evening event at Bouverie Hall in Pewsey, Wiltshire.  Guests enjoyed home cooked food, a disco and a live band and approximately 400 has been raised for CANCERactive

Debbie told us that although the evening was a great success she had a few minor hiccups along the way We ran out of raffle tickets so I popped off down the local co-op to buy more, unfortunately I bought the same colour book, so when we called the raffle two people came up with the same numbers!  It was all taken in good humour though.

Other events so far this year include a coffee morning with bring and buy arranged in the local village hall of Jennifer Cullen on 7th February  - Jennifer raised 260 that morning!
Jane McHugh from St Albans organised a Pamper Evening on Friday 23rd March.  Approximately 100 guests enjoyed an evening of relaxation/beauty treatments and shopping and Jane has raised over 2,000.  Jane said, "Many people have asked me to arrange another event already as they had such a good time!"  Let’s hope that Jane takes up the challenge!

A huge thank you to everyone including Jay, Debbie, Jennifer and Jane for their efforts and continued support of CANCERactive and to our own Mandy Sweetman who helped Jane with the organising and running of the pamper evening in St Albans.
