Shortages in staffing hit treatment

The Royal College of Pathologists have warned that Government targets for cancer treatment are not going to be met. The NHS aims to reduce the time from referral to treatment to one month, and diagnosis to referral to two weeks by 2008. A lack of Government investment is sited as the reason for a current shortfall of 1000 laboratory assistants and a 12 per cent shortage in consultants.
