Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust. Since it was established in 1997, SDBTT has gone on to play a very unique and special role in the care of the children and young adults with brain cancer.
SDBTT is the UKs leading and largest brain tumour research charity. With significant support from families affected by brain tumours, the charity has raised 10m since it was established, and 7m of that income has been invested in ground-breaking research projects.
In 2009 we opened our first Centre of Excellence at University College London, with the aim of improving our understanding of brain tumours, to develop better treatments and improve outcomes for patients. We also campaign to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of brain tumours.
SDBTT provides a support service including an accredited, confidential helpline for patients and carers. We also offer support online, and face to face at family days and through local patient support groups. We work closely with professionals in the health sector and provide an educational and information service through our information roadshows across the UK.
The two main objectives of the charity are:
To fund and promote brain tumour research so that this can be translated into developing new treatments, improving survival rates and quality of life for children and adults
To provide education, information and support to children and adults with brain tumours and their families and carers.

Dr Kate James MBBS
Kate James is a conventionally trained doctor who combines working in NHS Palliative Care with a private integrative health practice in Northumberland. After her mother and daughter were diagnosed with cancer and both given poor prognoses, she embraced a holistic approach to support them both, and saw first-hand how effective the synergy between conventional and holistic care can be. Some five years later, both her mother and daughter have grown through and beyond cancer. Dr James now specialises in lovingly creating individualised holistic programmes to run alongside and support a patients conventional treatment for cancer. Through her practice she combines dietary therapy centred around chlorophyll rich foods, The Chinese Five Element System, and Western nutritional principles with EFT and Journeying work. She supports this with abdominal breath work, Chi Gong and Yoga and Eastern Spirituality and Philosophy. Her work is underpinned by the belief that when we support the meridian system with a number of different techniques amazing things can happen.
