This patient-friendly article is about chemotherapy drug, Clofarabine (Evoltra) which is used in the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) in children where there has been a recurrence. It is given intravenously. It is also now being used with adults with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) with anecdotal evidence showing success where previous treatment has failed.
Side effects can include: lowered resistance to infection, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, bruising and bleeding, headaches, diarrhoea, loss of appetite and less commonly temporary changes to liver and kidney function, mouth ulcers and sometimes an acute inflammatory response. Your fertility may also be affected.
