Another alternative cancer treatment is Photodynamic Therapy, or PDT. This has been around for a hundred years or more but seems almost in its infancy as a treatment to beat cancer and kill cancer cells.
While there has long been the desire to find non-invasive therapies with far less side-effects than orthodox treatments such as chemo- and radiotherapy, PDT was inhibited by the ´agents´ or drugs being used and the quality of the light forms available.
However, the rapid expansion of our knowledge on the agents that can now be used to target cancer cells, along with the rapid development of ´Energy technology´ (via the use of lasers or, now, the latest forms of Ultrasound) is giving PDT a new and important lease of life.
Photodynamic therapy historically used an agent to ´lock in on´ cancer cells. This agent was then stimulated by light energy to produce oxygen, which is known to kill cancver cells, without harming normal healthy cells.
The development of new agents, particularly ´green´ algae and the like, allows cancer cells to be more tightly targeted. They can also be targeted in several locations in the body simultaneously.
And new laser and even ultrasound technology allows even deep cancers to be attacked since energy of important frequencies can now penetrate more deeply into the body than ever before, without causing harm.
